First Line Friday

First Line Friday!

Hello my reader friends! How has your week been? I’m not going to lie, I did not get a lot of reading done this week. I’ve been too busy! Last Friday my husband had surgery on his wrist, and I’ve been busy working, going to hubby’s annual transplant appointment, taking care of him, and keeping up with housework. Ladies, I have to admit something. I so appreciate my husband, and this week has really reminded me how much he does for me. He’s a stay at home dad and helps around the house when he can. I’m talking cleaning, laundry, dishes, etc… It may not be every thing and every week, but the stuff that he does makes my life a whole lot easier.

Okay, confession over. Let’s get to the real reason we’re here. This week I am super excited over the book I’m sharing. Everyone has an author that they love, admire, respect, and get totally giddy over every time there is a new book coming out. Karen Kingsbury is that author for me. I have every book of hers – they take up two shelves on my bookshelf. She has a heart for the Lord, and her writing is fantastic. Beyond that even.

Love Story is the telling of John and Elizabeth Baxter’s own love story, as well as checking in with Cody Coleman. For those of you who don’t follow, the Baxter Family Series is a huge hit with KK fans, and there are over 20 books in the multiple series about them. I have laughed with them, cried tears of joy, tears of sorrow, and grow excited with them. They are my family. Avid book readers know exactly what I mean. I could talk on and on about her books, but we’re here for one simple line. Sorry I’ve been a little winded today. I think it’s because I’ve missed blogging this week!

Okay….finally the moment you’ve been waiting for. Today’s first line from….

Cody Coleman took the football field alone, the way he did most things these days.

There you have it guys! And now it’s your turn! Open the book nearest to you and share the first line in the comments! And make sure to check out what my friends are reading this week! Happy Friday!

  1. My first line is from “Thunder on the Right,” by Mary Stewart.

“The Hotel du Pimene, Gavarnie, takes its name from the great peak of the High Pyrenees in whose shadow, at early morning, it lies.”

    Enjoy!

  2. That first line is a killer. What an opener! Clearly shows the hero’s problem and longing all in one. If only, I could write with such clarity!! I get so tangled…

    anyway…first line, first line…

“There is the tale that is told: A desert queen journeyed north with a caravan of riches to pay tribute to a king and his One God.” – The Legend of Sheba by Tosca Lee

  3. The Lost Boy by Thomas Wolfe : Light came and went and came again, the blooming strokes of three o’clock beat out across the town in thronging bronze, light winds of April blew the fountain out in rainbow sheets, until the plume returned and pulsed, as Grover turned into the Square.

  4. I keep seeing this book on Twitter. 😊 Fun fact….did you know that Karen Kingsbury teaches writing courses at Liberty University? And she received an Honorary Doctorate at this year’s Liberty graduation. Happy Sunday!

    1. I did know that! She also has an online course through Liberty that sometimes is free 🙂 I’ve been a Karen follower for years and am part of her Team KK. Cannot get enough of the Baxter family – I think it’s my all time favorite book family!
